Information About Alleged Security Breach

This notice is part of The Salvation Army’s commitment to client privacy. We take client privacy very seriously, and it is important to us that our clients are made fully aware of a potential privacy issue. We have learned that a small group of client’s personal information which may have included name, address, date of birth, SSN, Protected Health Information regarding specific past and/or present medical conditions, may have been compromised. On or about March 31, 2015, The Salvation Army in Knoxville, TN became aware that a box containing approximately 15 client files had been discovered on a property not leased to The Salvation Army.  We have not received any indication that the information has been accessed or used in any way by an unauthorized individual.

Please know that The Salvation Army takes the security of personal information very seriously. Therefore, if you were a resident at the Knoxville Men’s Shelter during

January 30, 2015 to March 31, 2015, there is a possibility your information was compromised.  Should you have questions, please contact us as soon as possible regarding this matter.

In addition, to protect your privacy, we recommend the following:

  1. Consider contacting the credit reporting agencies to obtain a free credit report.   1. Monitor all account statements for unusual activity.

We sincerely apologize and regret that this accident occurred.  The Salvation Army is taking corrective action measures to ensure that incidents such as this do not occur in the future.
