Every child deserves to experience the joy of Christmas morning. For thousands of underprivileged children in the Sevier and Cocke County communities, The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program provides the magic of Christmas.
The Angel Tree program provides new clothing or toys for children of needy families through the support of donors. Found in local companies and corporations, Angel Trees are decorated with numbered paper angel tags with the first name, age and gender of a child in need of presents. Contributors remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase appropriate gifts for the child or children described on the tags.
Recipients are individually screened to verify need and determine they were not served by other holiday programs. Individual wish lists are provided to allow adopters the joys of personalized shopping and recipients the delight of dreams fulfilled.
If you and your organization, church, business or club would like to sponsor an Angel Tree, please contact Captain Sarah Birkes at (865) 908-4010. Angel Trees are located throughout the community from early November through mid-December.
The Salvation Army needs volunteers to help sort, organize and distribute the gifts. Often times, employees and family members of the sponsoring organization help distribute their group’s gifts to their community. Community volunteer and service groups, church groups and retired senior volunteer programs often aid The Salvation Army during the holidays and throughout the year, but more volunteers are always needed. To volunteer, please contact Captain Sarah Birkes at (865) 908-4010.
Each year we serve about 200 families and fill over 400 Angels in Sevier and Cocke County.
