Since the very beginning, volunteers have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Salvation Army officers to provide help for the poor and downtrodden and those affected by natural disasters. In fact, the name “The Salvation Army” came about in 1878 when our founder, William Booth, adapted it from a phrase he read in a report that described the organization as a “volunteer army.”
The Salvation Army is truly an army of volunteers with opportunities for everyone, throughout the year. Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our ministry. We truly value our volunteers and realize they are a gift from God. Our volunteers enable us to function effectively and efficiently in everything we do: from feeding the homeless a hot meal, to tutoring students in an after-school program, serving at disaster scenes, to manning an Angel Tree booth during Christmas, and hundreds of other service opportunities.
We know that volunteers choose to donate their time and talents to us, and that does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. We are here to encourage our volunteers and provide them with the tools and training they need and support them at all times.
If you’re considering volunteering with us, we’d love to hear from you and get you involved!
