The War and the Poor, this is the heartbeat of the Salvation Army. We are committed to fight against darkness & fight for the salvation of souls. At the same time we are also committed to fight for the needs of the poor. The Salvation Army officially took on this fight in 1865.  Disciples of Jesus who join this fight are called “Soldiers.” The leaders of the Salvation Army are called “Officers.”
